Welcome to the planning page for the Fall 2017 MACTLAC (Midwest Association of Chemistry Teachers at Liberal Arts Colleges) meeting to be held at Monmouth College on October 13-14 (Fri, Sat), 2017. Hosted by the Chemistry/Biochemistry Department. MACTLAC started at Monmouth College in 1952; see picture below and the C&EN announcement here.
General Info: This general meeting is held each fall at a liberal arts college in the midwest. MACTLAC operates in 3 "regions" (East - MN, IA, and MO, West - MI and IN, and Central - WI and IL) and the meeting rotates around the regions. There are state representatives as well as an executive committee. In the past years there have been ~100 attendees at this meeting. The "Duties of the Host Institution" can be found here.
Timeline
- Aug 2016: Host institution (College President) sends letter of invitation to the MACTLAC President.
- Oct 2016: Attend the MACTLAC Executive Committee meeting at 2016 event at St. Benedict/St. John' University in St . Cloud MN. While at the meeting invite the membership to Monmouth College on October 13-14. Have some general idea of the meeting theme and potential speakers in order to entice membership.
- Nov 2016: Begin to secure speakers and sponsors. Make campus reservations for space needs.
- Feb 2017: Send out postcard reminder to membership with meeting dates and tentative program.
- Ap 2017: Solidify the program; confirm room reservations; block out hotel reservations; secure vendors/sponsors; arrange for meals; arrange for IT.
- Ap (late) 2017: send out tentative program via email to membership.
- May 2017: Send tentative program to MACTLAC Executive Council
- Mid Aug 2017: email reminder to MACTLAC membership.
- Sept 2017: Check on meal, refreshment, speaker, & vendor arrangements
- Sept (late) 2017: Identify discussion leaders and recorders & get directions Arrange archivist, placement, etc
- Oct 13-14: Host Meeting. Attend Executive Council
- Nov 2017: Forward documents to Secretary-Treasurer & Archivist
- Dec 2017 Celebrate that it is all over!
Meeting Site
The meeting will take place during our Fall Break so all of CSB should be available for the event.
