Introduction, Why present?
In 1825, Michael Faraday started a "Royal Institute Christmas Lectures" in order to present scientific concepts to the local community. These lectures were geared toward both young and old.

Demo list
Demo 1
Brad Start with a bang! CaC2 + H2O --> C2H2 (g) + Ca(OH)2
- a) do in large beaker
- b) do in small bottle
- c) do in larger bottle
- d) larger????
Demo 2
Chris
- Magic Jug
- Requires Six clear glasses and a clear jug.
- A jug of Ammonium Iron 3 sulfate
- Glass one - Potassium thiocyanate
- Glass two - Barium chloride
- Glass three - Potassium ferrocyanide
- Glass four - Tannic Acid
- Glass five - L-tartaric acid
- Glass six - Sodium bisulfite
Demo 3
Steve Universal indicator in flat panel "canvas'
- add HCl to make it turn red (Monmouth)
- add NaOH to make it turn purple (Knox)
- add CO2 when Red to have it change.
Demo 4
Lasers and Fog machine
Demo Y
Demo X
- Traffic Light Reaction
- Two beakers of water.
- Glucose in the larger (~700 ml warm water)
- NaOH in the smaller (~250 ml cold water)
- Indigo carmine in the larger beaker (turns blue)
- Combine the two beakers and get green for a moment, then red, orange, yellow.
- Addition of oxygen will turn the reaction back to red.
Demo 5
Red Cabbage dye...demo also...
