Michael Offutt
Michael Offutt taught Chemistry for 32 years at Barringon High School, Barrington, IL, and presented Chemistry demonstrations for thousands of young people, adults, teachers, and other professionals in a variety of venues all over the United States and Canada. Mike has also presented teaching workshops for the Illinois Science Teachers Association, Illinois Chemistry Teachers Association, the Museum of Science and Industry, FermiLab Education Center, SCITECH in Aurora, the Rockford Discovery Center, and at many other libraries, universities, and schools regionally and nationally. He received the Tandy Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Davidson Award for Excellence in Chemistry Teaching, and the Presidential Award in Excellence in Science and Math Teaching.
A professional storyteller and songwriter, he has written and recorded six albums of science songs. For the last twenty-five years, Michael has written the official National Mole Day Foundation song to be sung every year on Mole Day, October 23, at 6:02 am. He has been called, “America’s Chem Singer.”
