from M. Connell (9/26/2017) committee modified (10/31/17)

Procedures for approval of requests for supplemental faculty development funding.

1. Normally, final approval of funding requests will not occur before October 15th (after at least 1 faculty meeting). The October 15th deadline is an attempt to give all faculty members (including new faculty members) an equal opportunity to be considered for funding at the start of the academic year. (An exception to the rule maybe made for high priority requests that necessitate conference registration and/or travel arrangements be completed in a “time is of the essence” manner.)

2. Funding requests may be fully funded in October, be denied in October, be partially funded in October or be delayed until January.

3. Funding requests that are received after October 15th (ie. late requests) will be considered after the first round of approvals is complete. Such requests may be fully or partially funded immediately or the decision on such requests may be delayed until January. Such requests may exhaust the remaining pool of funds.

4. A faculty member may request a maximum of 12.5% of the total pool of funds. Requests for more than 12.5% of the pool will be considered along with other pending requests for funding in January.

5. Faculty may make multiple requests for funding. Faculty members making multiple requests for funding should clearly indicated the funding priority of each request. Any funding request beyond the first request that causes the total amount requested to exceed the 12.5% threshold will be considered under the procedure describe above.

6. FIDC will report current fund balances at each faculty meeting through the electronic report.

7. All requests received before January 10th will be considered in January. Funding requests that were partially funded will be reconsidered for full funding in January. Final funding decisions will be made in January. These decisions will most likely exhaust the available funds. Requests received after January 10th will be considered and acted upon until the pool of funds is exhausted.

8. One factor that will be considered by the committee is the previous number of requests funded for an individual member and the total level of funding for an individual faculty member (both number of requests and level of previous funding will be considered).

In English – no approval until everyone has an equal chance to play – possible exceptions for November travel. Requests received before the October 15th deadline 1) might be fully funded, 2) might be partially funded, 3) might be partially funded and might be denied. Requests after the first deadline might be approved and might be delayed. When the money runs out, the money runs out. If there is any money left, in January all pending requests will be acted upon. After January, rolling approval/action until the money runs out.
