Classroom Design

At the time of its original installation, with most of it being more than a decade ago, the design of classroom technologies across campus served the institution well. As with any technology, though, hardware and software upgrades become necessary and inevitable.

Below is a list of AV technology currently in place.

Projection/Displays

- standard (ceiling) projectors

- short-throw projectors

- LCD TVs

Classroom podiums with

- Instructor station PCs

- with document cameras

- with external laptop connectivity

Classroom/Computer Lab PCs

For the type of teaching you would like to be able to do, that would best serve the students:

1. What new AV technology should we consider adding, that is not already available, to enhance your teaching?

2. Do you use the existing document camera? If so, how are you using it? If so, do you see it being necessary going forward?

3. Is your preference for a dedicated classroom podium PC or would you prefer bringing in a campus-issued laptop (once the college is able to issue them more widely)?

4. For each of the rooms you teach in most often, please indicate if the projection/display style - (ceiling mounted projector/short-throw projector/LCD TV) - works well or if a different form of display would serve your students better. (Please answer on a room-by-room basis, if you have suggested changes).

5. As a follow-up to question 4, please indicate if any of the display screens should be relocated or enlarged to enhance the student viewing experience. If so, indicate which room(s), the move desired and why the move is necessary.

6. With what frequency do you foresee incorporating ZOOM into your classroom experience? Will those ZOOM sessions require frequent verbal/video interaction of the remote participant(s) with your classroom participants (or vice versa)?

7. How many of your classes make use of a computer lab? If so, how frequently? Is a computer lab readily available when you need it?

8. Do any of your classes use software that is not installable on a student’s PC or MAC? If so, please provide examples.
