Chemical, enzymatic, and electrochemical oxidation of biophenols.
- Sara L. Simonson and Bradley E. Sturgeon
The redox properties of phenols can be studied using chemical, enzymatic, and electrochemical methods. Whereas chemical and enzymatic methods have a fixed oxidation potential, electrochemical methods allow for control of the oxidation potential. The oxidation product outcomes (HPLC) from KMnO4 oxidation, peroxidase/HRP oxidation, and bulk electrolysis of 4-hydroyphenylacetic acid will be presented along with the cyclic voltammetry data. Similar data will be presented for other biologically relevant phenols.
