Thermal camouflage at the natatorium
This picture was taken at the Monmouth College Natatorium. My goal was to see the effect the water had on concealing the thermal output of the human body. Through this picture, I discovered that the water was able to conceal the output quite well. The person on the left did not enter the water and was completely dry. The two people on the right had gotten in the water and swam 50 yards. This picture was taken roughly 10 seconds after they exited the water. The temperature of the pool is about 82 degrees fahrenheit. The two people that jumped into the water were giving off roughly the same output as the water itself; as you can see their heat signature is nearly identical to the water in the background. A swim cap and goggles are giving off slightly different heat signatures then the bodies themselves, which represent the green color on the bodies. The The heat signatures at the top of the picture are given off by the lamps and metal beams on the ceiling.
