My (BES, June 2021) download notes/experience:

I am installing R since it is required for the EdX course on microbiome analysis. I originally installed an incorrect version of R and it would not launch. After correct this, and installing R Studio (not required or mentioned in the EdX course), i was able to open R Studio. Below is a screen shot of the message received after launching R Studio...on startup i was asked if i wanted to install some additional libraries...i choose yes.
