The Salinity test comes is performed using a hand held refractometer
What the test is used for:
Testing Salinity allows us to determine the salt concentration in the tank.
Effect of Salinity on Aquarium:
The salinity has a drastic effect on the aquarium, as it is the concentration of the NaCl in the aquarium. The aquarium life has a dependence on a certain concentration of salt, so if the concentration is not close enough to what the species need, it could result in death of the species.
Test Procedure:
1) Open the plate near the angled end of the refractometer 2) Place a couple drops of aquarium water onto surface 3) Close the plate carefully 4) Read the measurement by looking through the end of the device
Recommended Salinity:
For the Purple Sea Urchin, the salinity should try to be kept around 1.0264 sg. The unit of measurement is specific gravity.
