Colleagues,

FIDC invites departments and programs to submit staffing (faculty or staff) proposals with a due date of Mon, November 6th, 2017.

As indicated in our faculty statues, FIDC will review the submitted proposals and make recommendations to the dean about hiring decisions. Insert what we generate...high prioety, low prioety...(see a previous email sent to chairs.)

As always, FIDC would like to hear about your current needs, and your long-term plans, including proposals for tenure-track and long-term continuing lines. The Committee seeks to understand how individual departmental or programmatic requests fit into college-wide initiatives, including but not limited to Integrated Studies and curricular innovations.

As we have in the past, FIDC would also ask you to consider and submit needed support positions in your area, or across the campus. These are not necessarily requests for positions, though they may be; these are simply informed insights into what would help faculty or programs function better. Since data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) has pretty consistently shown that we run at about 92% of our expected faculty levels, but only 68% of our expected staff levels, we would appreciate gathering your best insights into where future support hiring might be most fruitful.

Our goal, as well as our ideal, is to help the College plan strategically for the future. FIDC should look at departmental exigencies but must keep an eye on institutional needs and be able to coordinate both levels as it proposes new positions. Rather than reacting solely to departmental needs, FIDC will consider proposals over and against each other which will, in turn, allow us to assess their merits relative to the other needs we perceive, both near- and long-term.

Thanks for your efforts; we look forward to receiving your proposals and your ideas on staffing needs, as well.
