What to look for in a kitchen coordinator[modified from refernece 1]:
- 1) The ability to work with diverse groups of people,
- 2) The ability to teach, advise, listen and encourage,
- 3) Interest in cooking, food, and nutrition,
- 4) Knowledge of adult learning principles (for an overview see reference 1, Appendix C: Adult Learning Principles, page 31)
- 5) The ability to multi‐task and work in a busy atmosphere,
- 6) Knowledge of "Food" regulations, and
- 7) The ability to budget and manage funds.
The kitchen coordinator can help with:
- 1) Finding a location,
- 2) Putting kitchen partners in place & promoting the kitchen,
- 3) Assisting in establishing and maintaining harmony of the group,
- 4) Shopping for food & keeping a budget,
- 5) Keeping an inventory of supplies, organizing storage areas, etc.,
- 6) Planning and facilitating kitchen sessions, and
- 7) Ensuring health and safety practices are followed in the kitchen
