Learning Objective: to learn how to service a retail account, to work with retail account(s) to expand our business, to manage inventory, to work within a reorder system.
Deliverables: During the course of the semester, you will be required to do the following: a) Put together an independent study proposal in consultation with a faculty advisor (within 1st two weeks). b) Orally present your role in the project to other project members (within ~1 month of starting). c) Establish a working relationship with at least 1 retail client and act as the customer service representative. d) Orally present your work to other project members (within the final 2 week of the semester). e) Write a paper (2 page minimum) documenting your experience with this job function and any systems/operations that were implemented and/or streamlined (due before end of regular classes).
Commitment: 3 hours weekly (0.25 creidt): attend biweekly project meetings, make weekly service calls to retail account to take inventory and place reorders. Deliver and restock product at client’s location.

Customer Service Representative
1. Rationale: This independent study course will entail making service calls on Scots Roast and Monmouth Coffee Project retail and commercial clients. As customer service is a critical element in providing quality products and services, the student will benefit as a business major. This course will give him experience working with a “client” and provide the opportunity to gain confidence in applying classroom knowledge and more.
2. Goals: The student will learn how to; service a retail account (stocking and displaying merchandise); work with an account to expand sales; manage inventory; and implement a reorder system.
3. Requirements: Student will; attend weekly coffee project meetings, make weekly service calls to retail accounts to count inventory and place reorders, deliver and restock product, and tend product display.
Student will deliver a 3 to 5 page paper describing how a system was implemented and streamlined. The student will also discuss what they learned about distribution, about dealing with a retail account, and what they learned about Customer Service.
