The pXRF can be used as a standalone handheld instrument. A "Quickstart" laminated page is in the instrument box

When using the stand to hold/operate the instrument it is best to control the instrument using the laptop on the cart. That computer has the "Bruker RemoteCtrl" software installed. Instructions follow.

  • 1) Place the pXRF into the acrylic holder
  • 2) Using the eraser end of the pencil, power up pXRF by pressing the on button
  • 3) Launch the Bruker RemoteCtrl software and under the "File" menu select "Connect..."
  • 4) Enter the following IP address in the lower window 192.168.137.139 and choose ok... the instrument will now be connected
  • 5) All operation can now be controlled by the computer
  • 6) Click "login". Enter password 12345. In the login ID window, "user" will flash temporarily
  • 7) You will be asked to acknowledge all safety warning regarding the use of this instrument. Acknowledge by pushing ok
  • 8) If the instrument shows "not armed" ask a instructor to disable the proximity sensor
  • 9) To properly identify elements in a given sample, the proper application library must be selected. the following is a list of the libraries and uses.
    • Alloys 2 - 10 second runtime. For pure metals or alloys
    • Alloys SMARTGRADE 2
    • GeoExploration - 30 second runtime. For rocks
    • GeoMining
    • Restricted Materials
    • Shavings and Turnings 2
    • Spectrometer Mode - 30 seconds runtime. Collects spectrum only; does not calculate percentages of elements
