Software Requirements

Oculus Runtime SDK 0.8.0.0 (free download)<--runs VR headset
Leap Motion SDK 2.3.1 (free download) <--runs the "hands" recognition
Unity v5.3.0 <-- (free download) "VR engine" (Choose "Unity Installer" from the pull down list)
OpenBabel (free download) <--chemical toolbox

Hardware Requirements

Oculus Rift system (~$500 - "touch" not required)) includes:
1) Oculus Rift Head Mount Display DK 2
2) Oculus Positional Tracker DK 2
3) Remote (used for Oculus Rift, but not MR)
Leap Motion sensor (~$100)
PC with:
1) Windows 8 or Windows 10 (x64)
2) 1x USB 3.0
3) 2x USB 2.0 or higher (at least one powered)
4) DVI-D or HDMI graphics output
5) DX11 capable graphics adapter
6) 4 GB Memory


The installation of the Molecular Rift (MR) requires a functioning and . The Oculus Rift requires a significant graphics card; we are currently using a Gforce GPX 1060 - 6GB (~$400). Our PC is an i5 Intel dual core processor.

MR V1

The version 1 of MR uses older technology and will not be discussed here.

MR V2

The following describes the install of version 2: 1) Search Molecular Rift V2 github...or go directly to: https://github.com/JBostrom/MolecularRiftv2

2) Select the "Download" (green) button to download all of the needed files.

3) Copy to "C:drive"...this will allow the install to go faster

4) Then "extract" the .zip file...

5) Once extracted, you will find multiple files and folders.



6) Select/run the Unity
