This form is to be used to request supplemental' Faculty Professional Development Funds (sFPDF). All full-time faculty receive $1,000/year to cover professional development expenses. Other faculty should inquire with their department chair about the level of support. Members of FIDC will review all requests and make funding decisions.
NOTE: Approval of supplemental funds requires that faculty proposers has spent down their Faculty Professional Development individual account. If supplemental funding is approved, Faculty Professional Development Funds are to be spent first, then supplemental funds. Faculty may check the status of their funds available under the heading "Individual Professional Development Accounting" under Faculty Resources. All funds must be spent by June 30, 2019.
Deadlines: The first round of proposals will be reviewed starting Oct 22nd. Proposals received after Oct 22nd will be reviewed on a case by case basis until all funds are disbursed. Special circumstances where funds are required prior to the deadline, FIDC will make a decision asap.
Please provide a short narrative describing the use of the supplemental funds.
Please provide a proposed budget with brief justification.
Please state a clear timeline for the use of funds.
Each proposal will be evaluated on its own merits, using the primary and secondary criteria (see below). Please respond to the prompts below keeping in mind that not all proposal will address all criteria.
Primary Considerations
Creativity: To what extent does the project foster something distinctive, new, and/or energizing in the work of the faculty member?
Generativity: To what extent does the project show the potential to foster interesting follow-up projects, inspire new programs, birth new collaborations, or build bridges between individuals or across disciplines?
Sustainability: To what extent can the project be sustained after the granting period?
Secondary Considerations:
Does the project cohere with current mission, vision, and priorities of the College?
Does the project support student learning, directly or indirectly?
Does the project support the development or improvement of existing programs or initiatives already sanctioned by the College?
Does the level of support match the inherent value?
PROSCRIPTIONS
- Neither Faculty Development Funds nor supplemental proposals can include release time or direct stipends for faculty involved.
- Faculty Development Funds and supplemental proposals can be used for non-travel expenses up to a maximum of $250 per year. These funds may be used for the following purposes:
- Annual membership dues in academic and professional organizations. This will not include lifetime membership fees;
- Entry fees for art and creative writing contests;
- Page and subvention fees for publication in academic and professional journals;
- Tuition for ongoing education; and,
- Material costs for scholarship, research, and creative activity, including (but not limited to) items such as books, computer software, and supplies for creative work.
