Physical Chemistry labs (Fall 2016)
Lab 1
- 1) Get to Know the LabQuest
- 2) NOVA: Absolute Zero
Lab 2: Thermometry I: You Can't Measure Temperature
- 1) Demonstration of temperature measuring devices
- Measuring T by measuring volume.
- Measuring T by measuring IR light intensity.
- Measuring Humidity via T/V.
- Measuring T via measuring voltage
- Measuring T via pressure, the "gas thermometer" (collect data, make graph, extrapolate to abs zero).
- 2) Introduction to glass blowing
- Making a very basic thermometer.
Lab 3: Thermometry II
- 1) How to make a thermometer (glassblowing)
http://www.sciencechannel.com/tv-shows/how-its-made/videos/how-its-made-thermometers/
- 2) Freehand glass blowing to make a more proper thermometer
- 3) FIlling and Calibration
- 4) Field trip to penthouse.
