Proposal

The goal of this project is to develop an Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) teaching method through the execution of various instructional experiments. Samples studied include Mn2+ impurities in MgO, CaO, and SrO complexes and TEMPO in aqueous solution. The MgO, CaO, and SrO complexes are obtained by oxidizing Mg, Ca, and Sr metal. The goal of the instructional experiments is to offer a student an in-depth understanding of how electron spin, d-orbital filling, molecular geometry, nuclear spin, and crystal field affect an EPR spectrum.

Instruments to be used

Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR)

Research pledge

I, Carley Folluo, have read the Chem/Bioc 430 course syllabus and understand the general structure and expectations of the research program. The above material was prepared after consultation, and in conjunction with my research advisor.
