The nitrite test comes from the Saltwater Master Test Kit created by API MARINE
What the test is used for:
This test is used to test the concentration of nitrites in the aquarium in the unit of part per million.
Effect of Nitrites on Aquarium:
Nitrites are a product of ammonia after it has been converted by nitrosomona bacteria into the nitrites. Nitrites are toxic to the life in the tank and the concentration should be kept as low as possible.
Test Procedure:
1) Fill test tube with 5 ml of aquarium water 2) Add 5 drops of Nitrite Test Solution 3) Cap the test tube and shake for 5 seconds 4) Wait 5 minutes for the color to develop 5) Compare the color of the solution to the Nitrite color chart
Recommended Nitrite levels (ppm):
Optimally, the nitrite level should be at 0ppm
Data:
03/12/2019 The test indicated a 0ppm concentration of nitrite
03/21/2019 5.0ppm concentration This indicates that our level has risen --> sea urchin addition to tank
03/22/2019 5.0ppm concentration
03/26/2019 0.50ppm concentration This indicated that the biological filter is working
03/28/2019 0ppm concentration
04/04/2019 0ppm concentration
04/09/2019 0.0ppm concentration
04/17/2019 0.5ppm concentration
04/23/2019 0ppm concentration
04/30/2019 0ppm concentration
