'''October Electronic Report to the Faculty'''

The Faculty and Institutional Development Committee (FIDC) is responsible for reviewing and recommending policies and procedures relative to the use and development of human and financial resources of the College.

The committee does the following (see statutes, Section IV, Article 8: https://ou.monmouthcollege.edu/_resources/pdf/academics/affairs/faculty-statutes.pdf)
:1) engages in conversation with administration about financial issues.
:2) reviews proposals for faculty replacements, new faculty positions, and/ or faculty reductions and makes recommendations to the administration.
:3) reviews and approves funding of faculty professional development proposals through the Faculty Development Fund.
:4) reviews and approves funding of student travel proposals through the Student Travel Fund.
:5) reviews and approves funding of non-science equipment proposals through the Non-Science Equipment Fund.
:6) reviews faculty sabbaticals requests and makes recommendations to the administration.
:7) reviews and approves funding of hosted public events (previously the task of Public Affairs Committee (PAC))
:8) reviews policies regarding all of the above.

As of October 2nd:
:a) The following faculty replacements/have been reviewed:
::- Computer Science, retirement, FIDC recommended tenure-track replacement.
::- Psychology, vacated tenure-track; FIDC recommended tenure-track replacement.
::- Classics, retirement; FIDC recommended tenure-track replacement.
::- Physics, vacated tenure-track; FIDC recommended tenure-track replacement.

:b) We have met with Richard Marshall, VP for business and finance/CFO.

:c) Sent out “call” for Faculty Development Fund proposals. Have reviewed multiple faculty development proposals (total 17-18 funding, $20k, currently allocated, $11K).
:Proposals funded through the Faculty Development Fund, as of 2 October 2017 include:
:1) Ken Cramer, Presented paper at 2017 American Arachno. Soc. Meeting.
:2) Mark Willhardt, Preparatory Visit to Scotland in preparation for Short Course Abroad.
:3) Michelle Damian, Present paper at Asia-Pacific Conference on Underwater Cultural Heritage.
:4) Rebecca Buel Young, Participate in National Communication Assoc. Convention.

:d) Sent our “call” for Student Travel Fund proposals. Have reviewed multiple student travel proposals (total 17-18 funding, $20k, currently allocated, $10K).
:Trips funded through the Student Travel Fund, as of 2 October 2017 include:
:1) Doug Rankin – funds to go to the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Indianapolis where several students will present work.
:2) Kristyne Gilbert – class visit to Art Center of Burlington
:3) Chris Goble (2) – Comm Studies trip to Illinois Broadcasters Assoc. College Convention in Normal, IL and INTG-3XX: Reflections trip to Cedar Rapids Comicon.
:4) Michelle Damian – Phi Alpha Theta (nat’l undergrad history honor society) trip to nat’l convention where students will present papers.
:5) Tim Gaster – class trip to Normal, IL for training to become immigration navigators.

:e) Have not received any proposals for the non-science equipment fund (total 17-18 funding, $2.2k, currently allocated, $0).

:f) Are working on producing “FIDC Processes” document.
