Born in New York and raised in the West African country of Ghana, William Aidoo attended Monmouth College from the spring semester of the 2021 academic year. The 21 year old is a biochemistry major as well as Vice President and House Manager of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He is currently under the charge of Professor Laura J. "A lot of doctors aren't keyed in to the human microbiome and as a result tend to prescribe wide scale antibiotics which wipeout your helpful microbiome. What they need is to have an understanding of hat harms and what helps in order to prescribe and even synthesize more specific antibiotics"- Bradley E. Sturgeon, PhD.

It is a life long dream of mine to become a doctor. A large part of that has been down to my fascination with the human body and the bacteria we interact with. this research is lined up with that dream. For the summer of 2022 I will be working with [[Zoie M Kruse]] and Professor Laura J Moore, PhD. to analyze the taxonomy of the soil microbiome.

==Introduction==
We begun the project with a trip down to Professor Moore's house to collect samples from her soil beds. Three samples were taken across four soil beds, giving us 12 samples. the samples were taken back. to the Biochemistry lab and DNA was extracted using the Qiagen PowerSoil kit. The DNA extracted was put through Gel Electrophoresis to confirm its presence, then analyzed with the Invitrogen Qubit 4 device. A Dilution process was used to bring the concentration of DNA down to an acceptable concentration. (Within the parameters needed for processing by the University of Illinois) Then the diluted samples were sent to the University of Illinois for processing.

==Equipment==
===Qiagen PowerSoil Kit===
The Qiagen PowerSoil kit was used in the extraction of DNA from the 12 samples collected.
====Procedure====
1. Spin the PowerBead Pro tube briefly to ensure that the beads have settled at the bottom. Using an '''analytical balance'''''Italic text'', add 0.25g of soil sample to tube and pipette 800μl of CD1. Vortex briefly to mix.
2. Secure the PowerBead Pro tube horizontally
